Danza Teokali

The Be-In welcomes Danza Teokali back to the Digital Be-In where they will again open the historic event with a traditional Aztec Invocation. The Invocation is a ceremonial dance which approaches a mystical theatrical experience. Teokali, which means "House of Creation," hail from Oaxaca, Mexico. To these native speakers of Nahautl, the indigenous language of the Aztec people, the dance is pure religion. Their dazzling, colorful, multi-sensual performance uses drum, fire and herbs, as well as percussion, rhythm, costume, prayer and spoken word. Feathered plumes on the dancers' headdresses measure five feet tall. They swirl and follow geometric patterns, reaching out to the audience, reaching out to the spirits. Their mission is to keep Aztec traditions and culture alive through artistic expression. What better way to start the busy evening? Stay tuned for news on this year's performance.

The Digital Be-In is produced by Verbum, Inc. in conjunction with The Unity Foundation
