Payson StevensPayson Stevens could be described as the digital age's answer to the renaissance man. Trained in oceanography and art, his 25 year passion for working to expand awareness of global change and environmental issues has witnessed him wear an astounding array of hats from scientist and author to producer, director, artist, and businessman. His prototype CD-ROM science journal "Arctic Data InterActive" from InterNetwork Media, the company he founded and new serves as president of, was honored in 1994 with a Presidential Design Award for Excellence from President Bill Clinton. His film credits include a CINE Golden Eagle Award (1980) and Silver Award at the U.S. Industrial Film Festival for the National Public Television broadcast script "Antarctica: Desert of Ice, Sea of Life". He also won a Silver Medal at the International Film and TV Festival of New York (1976) for the medical documentary "Dynamics of the EHC". Payson's multimedia CD-ROM credits include producer, director, and writer for the critically acclaimed title "Surfology 101" (1996); creative director for "Arctic Data InterActive", "GeoMedia", and "Turning the Tide: America's Coasts at a Crossroads" (debuted at the Smithsonian Institution's Ocean Planet Exhibit, 1995); and director/producer for "Our Crowded Shores" and "Embracing Earth Global Change". He co-authored the trade book "Embracing Earth: New Views of Our Changing Planet" (1992) and was a contributing author to two science college textbooks ["Geology Today" (1973), and "Biology Today" (1971)]. Additional articles featuring INI or Payson's work have appeared in Newsweek, CNN, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Examiner, San Diego Union, Communication Arts, San Diego Magazine, MacWeek, MacUser, Step-by-Step Magazine, and Orion. His artistic work has won numerous awards in print media including receipt of a Certificate of Excellence from the American Institute for Graphic Arts (1973) and Best of Show from the Society for Technical Communication (1983). |
