National Writers Union Job Hotline

Kenya Briggs has been managing the National Writers Union Job Hotline for 10 years.  Before she came on-board with the union, Kenya was a TV news reporter and news Bureau Chief in Imperial County, California.  A native San Franciscan, Kenya also enjoys stage acting and has been in several Bay Area plays.

The National Writers Union Job Hotline was originally founded in the late 80's by technical writers in the union's Bay Area Local.  Its purpose was to provide NWU writers with an alternative to using agencies and brokers to find technical writing contracts.  Since then, the Hotline has expanded into a national project, serving not only technical writers, but also freelance journalists, book authors, business writers, screen writers, and others.  Its mission has expanded as well, but the service still operates on the core principal that writers should have the right and opportunity to contract directly with their clients.

The National Writers Union Job Hotline is one of may services and programs available through the NWU to its members.  Employers list contract and freelance writing and editing opportunities for free.  Union members pay a finder's fee of 10% of the first four months' income for jobs that they find through the service.  Writers contract directly with employers through the Hotline, the union is not involved in or party to negotiations between NWU writers and Hotline clients.  NWU membership dues are on a sliding scale, based upon your average annual income from writing.  For more information on the NWU Job Hotline please visit:  http://www.nwu.org/hotline.
