DIGITAL BE-IN 12

Amy Carr

Netcast Photographer

I am one of those people who is driven by the creative spirit to document life as it unfolds before me. Aware that every moment is unique, never to be recreated, photography helps me appreciate the reverence and mystery of life. I appreciate the camera as a tool, like a fine magnifying glass, allowing me to bring details into focus and to really observe them isolated from their counterparts. Being a "big picture" person, I find this exercise refreshing and balancing. I am also an aesthetic hedonist. Any time I have an excuse to look at beautiful things, I have taken it. I love rich colors, creative expression, the mixing and fusing of different art forms. I find the creative aspect of photography exhilarating and deeply fulfilling.

I spent the greater part of a decade living, working and photographing indigenous peoples, landscapes and cultures from around the globe. Among other things, being immersed in a foreign culture has taught me how to be more present, more aware of the complexities of the human condition as we evolve in a world where ancient and modern both clash and merge in a continuous evolving stream. Photography brings the moment into an even tighter focus, allowing me to view and capture the subtleties of "reality" as it unfolds before my lens. I am especially drawn to cultures that infuse spirituality with everyday life and intrigued by the beauty of the human spirit or soul as it manifests its divine nature. I am constantly surprised that in the midst of chaos are moments of order, sacred moments that transcend daily concerns. When I am truly present in such moments, composition becomes effortless, the moment slows down and the mystery of life seems to come into full play. Since returning to the Bay Area in 1995, in addition to exhibiting, I have expanded my focus to include performing arts, events, digital art and corporate photography.
