About the Digital Be-In Now in its 12th year, the Digital Be-In is a unique San Francisco-based event--the original cyberculture "gathering of the tribes" inspired by the Janaury 14, 1967 Human Be-In--that showcases creative and humanistic applications of digital media. The Be-In brings together and celebrates the international community of people and groups whose work with technology is transforming our society in many positive ways. The Digital Be-In is where social conscience, art, spirit and human evolution enter the high tech dialogue. With a theme of "Media Revolution," the 12th Digital Be-In addresses the state of new media and possibilities for global social evolution through intelligent use of new media tools. Previous themes have included Freedom of Speech on the Internet, Human Rights in Cyberspace and Cultural Diversity on the Net. At
this year's Be-In we will be exploring how the Internet and digital
media can actually deliver the tremendous communications, news gathering/reporting,
and educational breakthroughs that inspired the creators of new media
systems from early on. To do this, we must "think outside the box" and
move beyond the constraints of our obsolete systems to design non-commercial
news and product information delivery, many-to-many publishing, on-demand
training and education, and other advanced applications and systems.
Digital Be-In 12 will feature speakers and exhibits addressing these
issues. Michael
