Indigenous peoples have been in the spotlight tonight. Antonio Gonzales of the International Indigenous Treaty Council addressed the Be-In early on, followed by Floyd "Red Crow" Westerman ("Dances With Wolves") singing traditional Native American songs on guitar. And one of the exhibitors up in the Digital Frontier is the South and Meso American Indian Rights Center.

Indians throughout the hemisphere are fighting for survival, the Center warns. In response to the need for international support for indigenous peoples' rights, the center was formed in Tiwanku, Bolivia, in 1983. Since then it has worked to unify and promote the rights of indigenous peoples throughout the Americas with a variety of programs, including human rights and environmental activism, its womens' project, and the providing of technical assistance and cultural exchanges.

The Center is entering the digital age thanks to the CEIBA Foundation, an educational resource center which produces and distributes multimedia materials promoting biodiversity, indigenous rights, and ethnobotanical conservation. "We're giving indigenous people the tools to promote themselves, " says CEIBA cofounder John Bela. The CEIBA Foundation will be hosting the Center's Web site at www.mdmax.com/ceiba.
