Folks are scratching their heads, looking for the errant words to convey more of the funkiness that is the Digital Be-In, 1996.
Earlier I mentioned the many paradoxes at work here tonight. Now, as I siphon water from a plastic Calistoga bottle and the music turns downright ambient, it's not the seeming opposites or contradictions, but combinations I am tripping on.
The Digital Be-In is clearly predicated on technology, computer technology. Specifically, it's about the ability to turn a club into a worldwide broadcast network in a few short hours. But trip through this site and notice what is REALLY here. What is playing right behind my back. The human voice. Costumes. Percussion. Dancers. These are not elaborate extensions of man, these are man. We are using elaborate means to bring you primitive, living forms of cultural expression. In this way, the Bridge IS like Star Trek. We are not relying on science or Spock's logic alone, but falling back on instinct, celebrating the spirit.
