This ambitious "live" multi-site netcast will bring you as much of the real
sensation of Digital Be-In 8 as our combined technologies can handle.
Our Main Stage offers music and visuals and poetry. The Visionary's Soapbox
is where the thinkers and prophets of the next Millennium speak. In the
Digital Frontier are artistic and entertainment creations to challenge your
mind and stimulate your senses. And, up on the Bridge, our team of hosts,
netcast reporters and technicians are working hard to relay it all to you.
Here's what we're doing:
This is the inaugural flight of our craft, so there are bound to be a
few glitches, but stay with us. . .it'll be worth it! We've devised a menu
of options to fill your bandwidth, and then some...
*For those who prefer to experience the event by continuous, streaming
realtime audio, we are pleased to offer Real Audio, provided courtesy of
Progressive Networks. To download this utility, do it from
here. This is an especially good
bet if you are using a 28.8 connection or slower, as you will get the live
flavor via your ears, while you see near-realtime still images posted, along
with text being created on the fly, reporting on the unpredictable happenings
of the night. When you're ready to receive Real Audio from our server, go
back to the BRIDGE and select "live
audio."
*For those who cannot avail themselves of either choice above, you can
still be there...virtually! Try navigating through the different realms of
the Be-In by clicking in the areas (from the Bridge) which correspond to
the physical areas of the event by the same names. To make sure you are getting
the latest images and text, click "reload" on your browser every ten minutes
or so. If you have the latest beta of Netscape Navigator 2.0, you
will get the best results.
You may actually get to experience more of the event than
those of us in the building, since we can't get from area to area as quickly
as you can. Thanks for joining us. We hope your visit is engaging, inspiring,
and worthy of an encore.
Sincerely,
*Those of you with fast Internet connections may wish to see
and hear the event in real-istic-time, via the latest version of CU-SeeMe,
the teleconferencing software from White Pine Software / Cornell University. Download it from
here. When you're ready to rock, plug yourself
in by going back to the BRIDGE and
selecting the button marked "live video."
