A big fraction of this new social system is a decentralized government (I think he and Mike Godwin have been talking). "The web [by it's decentralized nature] is giving communities a voice to explore thought and serve as a nervous system for support for this decentralization." He also makes sure to assert that the web is not very useful unless it's "connected to the physical world." He believes that the Web has "real potential outside of the virtual reality if it can be a service to the physical community. Right now, it's too slow. I did a search for 'friendship,' and didn't come up with anything. Not enough stuff is out there yet."
And of course when asked about the Internet affecting the future of the Governement and institutions we got a standard Jerry flippant, humorous, and well needed remark. "Most institutions shouldn't have a future: they're corruptive and dysfunctional. Institutions are summaries of power. We need to get back to self gvt. and that involves decentralization" which could be seen as going hand in hand with the Internet.
