Digital Be-In 15: BiomimicryLimited Edition Be-In 15 poster by San Francisco artist Wendy Wright

Thanks to all for making Digital Be-In 15 a resounding success on all levels!

Profound gratitude for everyone’s contribution to this landmark event! This year’s theme – and the spirit of the times – brought hundreds out early (on a cold, rainy San Francisco evening) for the info- and passion-intense 2-hour Biomimicry Symposium. Hundreds more joined in as the night evolved from Symposium to Activation Celebration and upstairs from the Take Action Zone to the Ambiotica Salon. Live blogs were posted to Urth.TV, and the Virtual Be-In attendees listened to the live stream of the Symposium. Truly a successful launching pad for sustainability initiatives that matter! Check back here for more updates and content from Digital Be-In 15 and news about future events...

Digital Be-In 15 is a 21 and over event

San Francisco's original cyberculture event returns on Earth Day weekend: Digital Be-In 15 is a combination symposium, exhibition and multimedia entertainment extravaganza featuring world class "conscious music" artists Aphrodesia, Rara Avis, Welder, Alex Theory, Goddess Alchemy Project and many others, with appearances by Rob Brezsny, Larry Harvey and other New Edge visionaries.

With a theme of "Biomimicry," the 2007 Digital Be-In is a launching pad for new initiatives in the sustainability movement - and an Activation Celebration of the Green Revolution!

ABOUT THE THEME

Biomimicry is a cross-disciplinary methodology that draws design guidance from the elegant systems and technologies of the natural world. The biomimicry movement is taking on broader and more exciting applications in the context of fast-emerging “CleanTech” and green technology initiatives, as well as our urban, resource management, farming, economic and social systems. The Digital Be-In is pleased to be working with the Biomimicry Institute and other expert groups in exploring this vital 2007 theme.

Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature by Janine Benyus (1997, William Morrow)
Janine Benyus’ nine basic principles of biomimicry:
1. Nature runs on sunlight.
2. Nature uses only the energy it needs.
3. Nature fits form to function.
4. Nature recycles everything.
5. Nature rewards cooperation.
6. Nature banks on diversity.
7. Nature demands local expertise.
8. Nature curbs excesses from within.
9. Nature taps the power of limits.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bionics (also known as biomimetics, biognosis, biomimicry, or bionical creativity engineering) is the application of methods and systems found in nature to the study and design of engineering systems and modern technology.
