Aphrodesia
http://aphrodesia.org/
"Aphrodesia's irresistible blend of female vocals, relentless African-inspired
rhythms and monstrous horns has already blasted around the world from
San Francisco to West Africa, where they became the first American band
ever to play Fela Kuti's famed Shrine nightclub in Lagos, Nigeria. Travelling
the country in a biodiesel-fueled bus since 2004, the band's uncompromising
blend of music, progressive politics and environmentalism continues to
inspire."

Alchemimicry is a performance ritual
about the alchemy of turning our deepest fears and limitations into light
and empowerment. It’s about transformation at a personal level and
societal level: of how to embrace our fears on a planetary level (global
warming/mass extinction, etc.) and find solutions through community. It’s
about creating the world we dream... letting what we don't want from the
old world die away and striving to keep what we do want (the species that
our dying, friendship, love, etc.). It’s about inspiring audiences
to realize that they are the imaginal cells of the gluttonous caterpillar
of society coming together to totally liquefy what doesn't work (the cocoon
stage) and be the visionaries for a new beautiful world (the butterfly).
It’s recognizing and accepting that we’re going through contractions
now, but that we’re choosing a new world based on love, health,
and harmony. It's about our species evolving. Conscious evolution.
